Clark County sits south east of Fayette County. Winchester serves as the county seat. While I-64 and Winchester add an urban vibe to the county, most of it has remained agricultural with farmland making up nearly 95%.
Bourbon County is located northeast of Fayette County. Paris serves as the county seat. It is best known as the birthplace of bourbon whiskey. Up to 26 distilleries were shut down by prohibition in 1919 and no bourbon was produced in the county until 2014 - a period of 95 years.
Woodford County is located directly west of Fayette County. Versailles serves as the county seat. Midway is home to Midway University, a private university which has a high emphasis on the equine industry. Woodford is home to a large number of farms for the thoroughbred industry, including Coolmore America, the home of the only living Triple Crown Winner American Pharoah. It is also home to the oldest bourbon distillery, Woodford Reserve.
